Addicks Punish Disappointing Millers

Fresh on the heels of a wonderful afternoon at Wembley, Rotherham were back in their home comforts taking on a Charlton side who at this point in the season have nothing left to play for. Before the match began, Rotherham chairman Tony Stewart paraded the latest addition to the clubs silverware. Greeted with a rapturous applause, the atmosphere pre-kick off continued to grow. Paul Warne then jogged his way around the ground asking the 9,000 Millers to add more noise to the contest. Pre- match mood set. Post-Match mood however would not follow.

The first half was a tight affair which the Millers probably felt like they edged, without making too many clear-cut chances. Smith glanced a header just wide and Ogbene was a constant threat down the right flank. However, the away side handled the game well and continued to frustrate the Millers. A theme that would continue throughout the game was the constant counter-attacking threat that the away side possessed. This threat almost handed Charlton the lead when Washington was through on the Millers' goal, only for Rathbone to make an important last ditch tackle. Harding clearly wanted to get in on the goalmouth action as he sent a cushioned header flying past the on rushing Viktor Johansson. To the relief of the Miller's right back, the header was eventually collected by the Swedish goalkeeper. A cagey first half coming to a close at 0-0.

The second half followed the theme of the first, the home team with the ball but unable to break down the Addicks' back line. On 55 minutes the deadlock was finally broken, but not by the team pushing for promotion. Again, a Charlton counter attack caused issues for Rotherham and the ball made it's way to the Charlton number 4, George Dobson. The midfielder made no mistake from 25 yards, striking the ball brilliantly into the bottom corner. The Millers' continued to be frustrated and struggled to break down their London based opponents. The final throw of the dice saw a corner land at the feet of Mikel Miller. The Millers' winger blazing his chance into the crowd.

The result leaves Rotherham out of the automatic promotion places and desperately in need of a win to build confidence.

Fans left the ground disappointed or maybe even more nervous for the upcoming games.
