Addicks Punish Disappointing Millers

Fresh on the heels of a wonderful afternoon at Wembley, Rotherham were back in their home comforts taking on a Charlton side who at this point in the season have nothing left to play for. Before the match began, Rotherham chairman Tony Stewart paraded the latest addition to the clubs silverware. Greeted with a rapturous applause, the atmosphere pre-kick off continued to grow. Paul Warne then jogged his way around the ground asking the 9,000 Millers to add more noise to the contest. Pre- match mood set. Post-Match mood however would not follow. The first half was a tight affair which the Millers probably felt like they edged, without making too many clear-cut chances. Smith glanced a header just wide and Ogbene was a constant threat down the right flank. However, the away side handled the game well and continued to frustrate the Millers. A theme that would continue throughout the game was the constant counter-attacking threat that the away side possessed. This threat almost handed ...

Under Arch: Millers Triumph, Sutton Heartbreak... The Tutu Draw

Pre Match: 13,000 plus Rotherham fans had travelled down to the Capital for their fourth trip to Wembley in 12 years. However, it wasn't the regular play-off final that drew them down south, it was the chance to watch their side lift the EFL trophy, a prize not won since their 2-1 triumph against in 1996 against Shrewsbury.  Wembley way was filled with the typical pre-match amble. Both sets of fans in good spirit and noise as they made their way up the newly installed steps of the historic ground. Sutton to the left. Rotherham to the right. Both teams were optimistic coming into the encounter, even if form had dipped for both. The stadium slowly began to fill up with both sets of fans adding to the wonderful atmosphere that comes with a Wembley showdown.  Then a take-away lovers nightmare... imagine Paul Chuckle and Tim Vine delivering your pizza, you'd definitely question it's quality. Luckily, attached to their delivery bikes, were only the match ball and EFL trophy re...

Valentines Day Comes Early

Rotherham fans made their way down the Sheffield parkway, cutting across the steel city, travelling in their thousands to Hillsborough Stadium. However, they could have been forgiven for thinking they’d made a wrong turn and ended up in a farmers field, such was the state of the pitch of the Owls.  The pitch would play such a big part in the events that were to unfold this afternoon. Prior to kick off both teams were in fine form. Wednesday were on a run of 4 successive wins which all included clean sheets. The Millers were also in similar form to their South Yorkshire counterparts, 5 wins from 5 and 5 clean sheets in a row. The Owls lined up with a 3-5-2 formation, with their midfield maestro Luongo sitting in the middle of the park waiting to pull the strings. The Millers made two changes from their 1-0 win over Wimbledon with skipper Richard Wood coming in for Mattock and Ladapo replacing the injured Will Grigg. The game started with the blistering pace you would expect from a d...

Will Grigg

Perhaps it’s the striker’s recent run of form or antics of other forwards at the club. But one thing is for certain, the long injury lay off for Will Grigg has definitely got some of the Millers fans worried for the coming weeks. Turn back the clocks to the start of January and everything seemed peachy at Rotherham. Smith was in fine goal scoring form and his seemingly perfect partnership with Ladapo had helped Rotherham on their charge to summit of league one. However this would be short lived with Ladapo’s transfer request coming as a shock to both club and fines alike. Cue the run of disappointing results that saw the Millers drop from top of the league down to third. Now third position on paper doesn’t look so bad, however teams around them were picking up points and Wigan had several games in hand to boot. It was at this time that the manager turned to Freddie and asked him to basically put himself in the shop window (aiding Rotherham’s promotion bid at the same time). January cam...
